Firm in texture, this is focused like a laser to display its black cherry, blackberry, licorice and savory herb flavors, shooting easily past the refined tannins to a distinctive finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2011 through 2017. 418 cases made. H.S.

MARK RYAN Dead Horse Ciel du Cheval Vineyard  2007 Score: 92 | $45

Under a layer of firm tannins, this has flesh and sweetness, offering black cherry, rhubarb, dried tomato and black olive flavors that mingle effectively on the expressive finish.
